DP Manu, whose full name is Devarakeshavi Prakasha Manu, is an Indian javelin thrower from Belur, Karnataka.
Born on January 24, 2000, he rose to prominence in Indian athletics with a personal best of 84.35 meters, achieved in June 2022 at the Inter-State Championships in Chennai.
This performance positioned him among India’s top javelin throwers, following athletes like Neeraj Chopra.
DP Manu Career Highlights
2022: Won the Indian National Championships and finished 5th at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
2023: Secured a silver medal at the Asian Athletics Championships in Bangkok with a throw of 81.01 meters. Later that year, he placed 6th at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, recording a throw of 84.14 meters.
2024: Clinched gold at the Taiwan Open with a throw of 81.58 meters
DP Manu Doping Ban
In April 2023, during the Indian Grand Prix in Bengaluru, DP Manu tested positive for methyltestosterone, an anabolic steroid.
Following this, the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) provisionally suspended him. In April 2025, NADA officially imposed a four-year ban, retroactive from June 24, 2024.
This sanction ruled him out of the Paris 2024 Olympics, where he was a strong contender for qualification via world rankings.
DP Manu Background & Training
Manu hails from a farming family in Hassan, Karnataka. He began his athletic journey with volleyball before transitioning to javelin throw, inspired by his school’s physical education teacher.
Since 2020, he has been training under Kashinath Naik, a former Commonwealth Games bronze medalist, in Pune.
