Malaysia’s men’s doubles pair suffered a mass exodus on the opening on Tuesday as all three professional contesting duos were knocked out.
Top seeded Malaysian men’s doubles pair Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani lost 23-25, 21-15, 11-21 to Japan’s world No. 76 Hiroki Midorikawa-Kyohei Yamashita at St Jakobshalle in Basel.
It was the second consecutive early exit for Sze Fei-Izzuddin who were knocked out in the All England Round of 16, last week.
Veteran pair Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi also bowed out despite after a spirited effort against world No. 12 Lee Jhe Huei-Yang Po Hsuan of Taiwan.
The second game turned out to be dramatic with Yew Sin-Ee Yi saving seven match points in their 18-21, 26-28 loss.
It was their fourth consecutive first round loss for the World Championships bronze medalist since the Malaysian Open quarter-finals finish in January.
World No.25 Nur Azriyn Ayub-Tan Wee Kiong were knocked out 21-23, 18-21 against Denmark’s world No. 26 Andreas Sondergaard-Jesper Toft.
Azriyn-Wee Kiong have shown signs of struggle in Europe as they have not won a single match in their last four events.
