
Krishna Jayasankar set history at the 2025 Mountain West Indoor Track and Field Championship by becoming the first Indian woman to breach the 16-m mark in the 2025 Mountain West Indoor Track and Field Championship in Albuquerque.
The 22-old threw the iron sphere to a new distance of 16.03 metres, bettering the previous record of 15.54m by Maharashtra’s Poornarao Rane, another student residing in the United States.
The male record belongs to Tajinder Pal Singh who threw the shot put to 21.49m.
She clinched the bronze medal ahead of Colorado State’s Makayla Long (15.9m) who was in contention of a medal till the last round.
Jayasankar is the daughter of former basketball internationals Prasanna and Asia All Star Jayasankar Menon in Chennai.
