India’s Arjun Babuta clinched the silver medal in the men’s 10m rifle event at the ISSF World Cup 2025 Lima in Peru on Saturday.
The rising Indian shooter missed the gold medal with the score of 252.3 in the final, just 0.1 points behind reigning Olympic champion Sheng Lihao of the People’s Republic of China.
The Indian shooter needed a 10.7 in the final shot to cause a huge upset. However, he managed 10.5, to allow Lihao clinch the top podium finish. Hungary’s Istvan Marton Peni took home the bronze medal with 229.8.
Babuta had finished fourth in qualifiers with 631.9. He has four shooting World Cup medals to his name.
Rudrankksh Patil, the other finalist, finished eighth after withdrawing from the final. His 11th shot was declared invalid as he shot before the official firing signal. The penalty saw him drop from fourth to eighth spot, following which he decided against taking the 12th shot in medal round.
Patil, who clinched a gold in the ISSF World Cup in Buenos Aires, had finished third in the qualification with 632.0.
In the women’s 10m air rifle event, India’s Aarya Borse finished fifth with a score of 188.1. She had earlier finished second in qualifier with 633.9.
India are currently third in overall World Cup ranking with five medals — two gold, two silver and a bronze.
China lead with 10 medals, including three golds and three silvers, while the USA are second with three golds and two silvers.
