In a surprising move in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, umpires are using a triangle-shaped plastic tool with specific dimensions marked on it to check if the bat passes the legal limits.

The tool first came into light during the match between KKR and PBKS on Tuesday where at least three players — Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, and Anrich Nortje — failed the on-field test. As a result, these players were required to change their bat with legal alternatives.

Interestingly, the seriousness of this rule is still to be known as in the match between Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals, Riyan Parag continued to play with his best bat which didn’t match to the dimensions.

These dimensions include the depth (2.68 inches), width (4.33 inches), and edge thickness (1.61 inches). Additionally, the bulge on the non-hitting side of the bat should not exceed 0.20 inches.

It is likely that the batters will take more serious approach towards their bat to be in the ideal shape before IPL starts reprimanding them.
