2025 All England Open Badminton Championships: Malvika Bansod, Lakshya Sen Ovecome First Round Hurdle

It was a mixed-day for the Indian shuttlers at the 2025 All England Open Badminton Championships on Tuesday as Malvika Bansod and Lakshya Sen advanced to the next round while H.S Prannoy was knocked out.

Bansod progressed in the BWF Super 1000 event after a hard-fought 21-13, 10-21, 21-17 victory against Singapore’s Yeo Jia Min.

Sen took charge for the Indian shuttlers in the men’s singles event, beating Su Li-yang 13-21, 21-17, 21-15 in an hour and 15 minutes. He came from behind after dropping the first game and trailing 7-11 in the second.

In the decider, the Paris 2024 breakthrough star picked up six consecutive points to seal the match and advance to the next round.

Prannoy, the 2023 World Championships bronze medalist, lost 19-21, 16- 21 to Toma Junior Popov of France.

He took an early 5-1 lead in the match but the French was quick to capitalize on his errors to clawback to 6-6. The match remained neck and neck till the first game interval at 11-11 with Prannoy taking a 15-12 lead. The Frenchman, then, picked up consecutive points to seal the first game.

The second game also saw a close start. But the Frenchman got hold off the game after the second mid-game interval.

In the mixed doubles, Sathish Kumar Karunakaran-Aadya Variyath were knocked out in the first round.

Double Olympic medalist PV Sindhu will spearhead India’s women’s singles campaign while in the men’s doubles, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty is the seventh seed and will be starting their campaign against Daniel Lundgaard and Mads Vestergaard of Denmark in the first round.
