Indian shuttlers are set to face one of the toughest challenge at the 2025 All England Open Badminton Championships, starting from Tuesday.
No Indian has won the title after Pullela Gopichand’s triumph in 2001. The first Indian to win the prestigious title was Prakash Padukone (1980).
Double Olympic medalist PV Sindhu will be keen on ending the title drought for India. She is training under singles coach Irwanshyah Adi Pratama and set to face Korea’s Ga Eun Kim in the opening round.
In the second round, she will likely face Korea’s Ga Eun Kim in the opening round with Indonesia’s Gregoria Mariska Tunjung set to be her quarter-finals opponent.
Paris 2024 breakthrough star Lakshya Sen will take on Japan’s Koki Watanabe in the first round.
Seasoned Indian campaigner HS Prannoy, top ranked men’s doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, will also be in action. The Indian duo will face Denmark’s Daniel Lundgaard and Mads Vestergaard in the opening round.
In women’s doubles, World No. 9 Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand will meet Chinese Taipei’s Shuo Yun Sung and Chien Hui Yu, while Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto will also be in action.
Malvika Bansod, Rohan Kapoor and Ruthvika Shivani Gadde, Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha, and Sathish Karunakaran with Aadya Variyath will also feature in the BWF World Tour Super 1000 event.
