Team Scotland secured the BKT World Men’s Curling Championship 2025 title after defeating Team Switzerland 5-4 in the gold medal game at the Temple Gardens Centre in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada.
This was a tight game all the way. When the teams reached the sixth end, with Scotland leading by 2-1, Switzerland’s fourth player Benoit Schwarz-Van Berkel hit out a Scottish stone, to score two points and give his team a 3-2 lead.
In the next end, Scotland skip Bruce Mouat played a gentle tap-up to score two points and retake the lead, at 4-3.
Scotland maintained this lead until the eighth end when Switzerland’s Schwarz-Van Berkel drew his final stone into position to score one point, and level the game again, at 4-4.
Then, after blanking the ninth end, Scotland’s Mouat played a draw-shot into an open house in the tenth to score the one point that gave his team a 5-4 win and the world title.
After this win — a second title for these Scots, who last won in 2023 — skip Mouat said, “We’ve had some really high highs this week, and some lows, but this is definitely the highest of the highs.
“Yesterday, we had to come out and play against two really tough teams and then today we came down the last with a four-foot draw, so you couldn’t ask for much more.”
He added, “My team is unbelievable, they’ve all made some great shots. This is incredible. To experience another world championship in Canada is incredible and to win it, is just the cherry on top. I’m just so proud.”
Meanwhile silver medal skip Yannick Schwaller said, “we felt comfortable out there today, and I’m super happy with how the team performed. Hopefully we will come out on top next time.”
