Two-time Olympic medallist and Indian javelin icon Neeraj Chopra has mutually parted ways with legendary Czech coach Jan Zelezny, bringing an end to their coaching partnership that began in late 2024.

The announcement marks a new chapter for Chopra as he prepares for a busy 2026 season with upcoming major events like the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games looming large.

Chopra, who has long idolised Zelezny — the world record holder and one of the greatest javelin throwers in history — spoke warmly about their time together.

He said working with the Czech great was a dream come true, adding that Zelezny expanded his technical thinking, especially around rhythm, movement and biomechanical approach, while providing a fresh perspective on his training.

Despite some inconsistencies in competition results, the relationship between athlete and coach remained strong on personal terms.

Chopra said he was especially proud of the friendship he built with Zelezny, underscoring the mutual respect that defined their brief association.

Zelezny also reflected positively on his stint with Chopra, highlighting the breakthroughs they achieved together and expressing confidence in Chopra’s potential going forward.
