Mikaela Shiffrin, the most successful alpine skier, is steadily recovering in her bid to return to action in 2025 after the horrific Killington crash which has now kept her out for over a month.
In a video shared on her social media accounts, the American skier displayed first signs of return by moving and sweating in the gym following a surgery due to complications in her recovery procedure from an abdominal injury.
She is currently in the strength and conditioning phase of her recovery.
Wishing everyone a Happy New Year, she wrote, “Making progress over here…I can move and sweat and use my body which is so exciting! This next phase of recovery is all about getting my strength and conditioning back as much as possible while working within the limitations of my obliques
“Long hours of gym/rehab time but it’s coming along and I’m so happy with that. Hoping to work into some easy turns on snow in the next week or so.
“There’s a little ways to go before I’m ready to truly ski with intensity—from a pain and a fitness perspective—but I am psyched with where we’re at now, kicking off 2025! And in the meantime, I’m loving watching the World Cup races!”
The five-time World Cup champion was sidelined since suffering a punctured abdomen in a heavy crash while chasing her 100th World Cup victory in the giant slalom at Killington, Vermont on November 30.
Incidentally, fiance Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, is missing the entire 2024/25 FIS World Cup season after shoulder surgery.
She is likely to progress for the fourth Winter Olympics medal at Milano Cortina 2026.
