India’s Gulveer Singh continued his search for middle-distance supremacy in the 2025 BU David Hemery Valentine Invitational Indoor Meet on Friday.
The Naib Subedar clinched a silver medal by clocking 7.38.26 to set the National Record in the men’s 3000m event at the Boston University Track.
The 2022 Hangzhou bronze medalist finished two seconds behind Adams State gold medalist Romain Legendre, breaking the previous record of 7.49.47 held by Surender Singh in 2008.

Indian track & field coach Younus Khan, coach of the long-distance running programme at the Army Sports Institute in Pune, shared the video of Gulveer’s performance on his Instagram account.
In 2024, he broke Avinash Sable’s National Record in the 5,000m by clocking 13:18.92 at the Portland Track Festival.
He had missed the qualification for the men’s 5,000m or 10,000m event at the Paris 2024.
“The automatic qualification standard for that competition was just too fast for me (the qualification standard in the men’s 5,000m was 13:05, while that in the 10,000m was 27:00). It was disappointing to miss out, but it reminded me of just how much I have to improve as a runner,” he told Sportstar.
His main goal will be to qualify for the 2025 World Athletics Indoor Championships. The qualification standard for the men’s 10,000m event is 27:00.00.
“In both my best 5,000m and 10,000m races, I felt that I had more to give. I think I can improve my time in the latter to a flat 27 minutes,” he said.
It will be interesting to witness how he continues to rise in a crucial year for the LA 2028 Summer Olympic Games cycle.
