Virat Kohli has ruled out T20 comeback to make an Olympic appearance at the LA 2028.
The IOC has announced the return of cricket to its roster for the first time since 1900 as one of the five new sports.
It will be played in the T20 format. The qualification criteria for cricket is still not known with the organizers keen to capitalize on its commercial value.
Kohli retired from the shortest format of the game after India’s T20 World Cup triumph in 2024, Barbados. He will, however, continue to feature for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The 36-year-old at the RCB Innovation Lab Indian Sports Summit, Powered by Leaders, said that cricket at LA 2028 will be a “great opportunity for some of our guys”.
When coaxed if he would like to join. Kohli said, “no”, and joked that if India were playing a gold medal match he “may come back for one game, get a medal and come back home”.
The run-machine, one of the greatest match-winners for India, retired with 4,188 runs at an average of 48.69, hitting one century and 38 half-centuries in 125 appearances.
