Veteran Danish player Viktor Axelsen is set undergo an endoscopic treatment for his recurring back injury.

After the first round exit in the 2025 All England Open in Birmingham earlier this month, the Dane said that he has been dealing with severe back/nerve pain for several months now.

The double Olympic champion also confirmed that he has plenty of gas left in the tank and will make a strong comeback.

“After consulting with my medical team, I have decided to undergo endoscopic treatment for my back issues next week,” Axelsen posted on social media. “While this means I will need some weeks for rehab post-surgery, I am confident that I will come back stronger. I still feel like I have a lot of badminton in me, and I’m fully committed to doing everything necessary to return to the court at my best.”

“I’m surrounded by extremely competent people, and I’m looking forward to being able to hopefully train and compete pain-free again. Thank you for all your support—it truly means a lot to me,” he wrote.

He battled lack of physical sharpness to win the India Open, earlier this year. The World No.3 is satisfied with his accomplishments.

“I’ve accomplished everything I wanted to accomplish… twice,” Axelsen had told The Indian Express. “But in order to keep hungry, I have to set myself new targets. And for me, it’s to fulfill my full potential. In my mind, I haven’t peaked yet. If you look at the big picture, I can’t come back in 10 years and say I’m going to give it a chance.”
