An elated Vijay Mallya congratulated RCB for their thumping victory over KKR in the IPL 2025 opener at the Eden Gardens, on Saturday.
Mallya, the former owner of RCB, highlighted their bowling performance which has been under scrutiny in almost every season.
“Congratulations to RCB for the emphatic win over KKR. Glad to hear the commentators finally say that RCB bowled well. The batting line up speaks for itself,” Mallya said on X.
Krunal Pandya (3/29) bowled a sensational spell while RCB openers Philip Salt (56) and Virat Kohli (59 not out) played match-winning knocks to take their side to seven wickets victory.
Chasing a target of 175 runs, Salt and Kohli built a 95-run partnership to put the visitors into the driving seat. Incoming batter Rajat Patidar (34) and Liam Livingstone (15 not out) added vital runs to help their side sail over the line with 22 deliveries to spare.
Earlier, after putting into bat KKR top-order Sunil Narine (44) and Ajinkya Rahane (56) stitched a 103-stand. However, later, RCB all-rounder Krunal Pandya ran through the top and middle order to put a halt to their run scoring.
The KKR middle and lower-order fell like a pack of cards.
“It’s been amazing, when I got into the team, I realised how much madness there is. The crowd support you get, even in domestic cricket, there also people are chanting RCB. It’s been 10 days since I have joined and it’s been pretty goodm” Krunal Pandya, the player of the match, said.
