Indian women’s doubles pair Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand stayed alive in the race to the BWF World Tour Finals 2024 semi-finals after overcoming Malaysian pair Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan 21-19, 21-19 in their Group A tie in Hangzhou on Thursday.
Treesa-Gayatri started on a positive note by taking a 6-2 lead in the first game before the Malaysian Olympic semi-finalists returned to level the proceedings.
The Indian pair, however, held their nerves to edge the first game.
The second game continued to be a neck-and-neck battle till 19 points but the Indians, once again, maintained their composure to close the game and win the match.
Incidentally, Treesa and Gayatri, are the lone Indian pairs to qualify for the year-ending tournament. They started their campaign with a loss to World No. 1 Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning of China in the opening group stage match.
The Indian pair will take on Japan’s Nami Matsuyama and Chiharu Shida on Friday in a bid to qualify for the semi-finals.
