Thailand Masters Badminton 2025: Kisona Selvaduray Stuns India’s Tanya Hemanth To Advance To Second Round

Kisona Selvaduray kicked off the season with an upset over higher-ranked Indian opponent Tanya Hemanth in the women’s singles Round of 32 clash at the Thailand Masters 2025 on Wednesday.

After an opening game deficit at the Nimibutr Stadium in Bangkok, the World No.76 stunned the World No.58 Indian 15-21, 21-11, 21-13 in 53 minutes.

The BWF World Tour Super 300 event is her first appearance of the season.

The  2019 Manila Sea Games gold medalist will face a stern challenge against third seeded Putri Kusuma Wardani of Indonesia who defeated Hong Kong’s Saloni Samirbhai Mehta 21-19, 21-11 in the second round.

The 29-year-old’s promising start to the career was derailed by injuries. She claimed the Dutch Open title last season.

Later, in December, she paired with Yap Rui Chen to win the Nepal International Challenge title.

In the men’s singles, Cheam June Wei crashed out while June Wei lost to India’s  68th-ranked S. S. Sankar Muthusamy 15-21, 21-15, 21-19 after a gruelling 72-minute challenge.
