In his first tournament as an independent shuttler, Jacky Kok missed out on the quarter-final berth after losing in straight games to South Korea’s Jeon Hyeok Jin in the Thailand Masters 2025 on Thursday.
The World No.101, a dropout from the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), suffered a 13-21, 18-21 loss in the men’s singles Round of 16 clash.
Kok showed some fightback in the second game saving five match points but was unable to hold his nerves to take the match into decider.
The 23-year-old is yet to display his full potential despite being highly regarded by his former national coach Datuk Misbun Sidek.
He was a part of the 2022 Asian Team Championships and claimed the Swedish Open title the same year.
Malaysian shuttlers Aidil Sholeh Ali Sadikin and Justin Hoh already exited the tournament after their respective losses.
Meanwhile, Malaysian women’s doubles pair Carmen Ting Ong-Xin Yee also crashed out after losing 17-21, 21-23 to Taiwan’s World No. 81 Lin Xiao Min-Wang Yu Qiao in the second round.
