World No.50 Justin Hoh missed a shot at European redemption as he was beaten 21-7, 21-13 by Japan’s Yushi Takana in the Swiss Open 2025 on Wednesday.
The Malaysian struggled to get a grip on the Round of 32 clash as he lost without threatening his opponent. He had earlier lost to Tanaka in the semi-finals of the 2023 Estonian International.
Hoh had his task cut out in the first round as he stunned world No. 7 compatriot Kodai Naraoka in the first round of last week’s All England 2025.
In his bid for European redemption, Hoh entered the main draw via two qualifiers.
He overcame France’s Valentin Singer 17-21, 19-21 in the first qualifying round and K. Sathish Kumar in a 69-minute second qualifying round match at St. Jakobshalle in Basel.
In his second qualifying round, he overcame a three-game thriller 21-19, 19-21, 21-16 against India’s Karunakaran Satish to enter the main draw.
Meanwhile, Tan Jia Jie fell short of the main draw after losing to Denmark’s Magnus Johannesen in the second qualifying round.
