India wrestler Sunil Kumar clinched a bronze medal at the 87kg Greco-Roman category at the Asian Wrestling Championship 2025 on Tuesday.

The multiple Asian Games medalist defeated China’s Jiaxin Huang in the bronze medal bout of the continental tournament.

Sunil is trying to regain his past momentum. His Asian Wrestling Championships 2025 campaign began with a dominant 10-1 victory over Tajikistan’s Sukhrob Abdulkhaev in the quarterfinals, where he scored all the points in the second-half. However, he was denied a spot in the final after 1-3 loss to Iran’s Yasin Yazdi in the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, Sagar Thakran won his 77kg qualification bout but suffered a 0-10 defeat in the quarterfinal against Jordan’s Amro Sadeh. He secured a place in the semi-finals with a four-point from par terre (ground) position. Following this loss, his hopes of progress was dependent on his opponent’s semifinal result.

In other bouts, Umesh (63kg) lost in the qualification round, while Nitin (55kg) and Prem (130kg) were eliminated in the early stages.
