In a bid to solve job problems for Indian athletes, the Sports Ministry has introduced a ‘Special Capacity Building Course’ to help the elite sportspersons become coaches, referees, and technical officials.

The decision was taken to develop elite coaches in India.

Talking about the ‘Special Capacity Building Course’, sports minister Mansukh Mandaviya said, “I see a lack of elite Indian coaches. This course will enable the former Indian sportspersons who are doing clerical jobs and other office jobs at the PSUs and ministries. We can bring all these sports persons as not only coaches but also as referees and technical officials. All of these guys will be trained by experts from the NIS, Patiala.”

Any former or current athletes who are currently employed can take part in the course.

Athletes who have won a medal or participated in multi-sporting events like the Olympics, Asian Games, and Commonwealth Games will be eligible for the course.

National Games medallists, national champions, along with Youth Olympians and World Champions will be allowed to take part in this course.

The course will comprise four certification levels, including,  foundation, pre-intermediate, intermediate, and advanced certificates. Each levels consist of a two-year course and will be available in hybrid and online version. Athletes will be given 10 credits for a total of 40.

Sports Science, modern coaching, yogasana, and leadership will be covered in this course to enhance professional skills.
