Simone Biles, one of United States’ greatest asset, has the clearest view of Los Angeles (LA) 2028.
After winning gold medals in the team, all-around, vault events and earning a silver in the floor exercise at Paris 2024, the American is ‘not greedy’ about participating in her fourth Olympic Games.
In a recent interview with Sport Illustrated, 11-time Olympic medalist explained there’s more than sporting ambitions at stake when deciding her future.
“I’ve accomplished so much, there’s almost nothing left to do, rather than to just be snobby and to try again – and for what? I’m at a point in my career where I’m humble enough to know when to be done,” she said, without fully ruling out participating.
“If you go back, you’ll be greedy. Those are the consequences. But that’s also your decision to decide. What sacrifices would be made if I go back now? When you’re younger, it’s like, prom, college. Now it’s like, starting a family, being away from my husband. What’s really worth it?”
The American gymnast made an extraordinary comeback in Paris 2024, after withdrawing from several events at Tokyo 2020, citing mental health concerns.
It earned her the ESPY for Best Comeback Athlete and recognition as Sports Illustrated’s Sportsperson of the Year while she was also the runner-up for the Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year.
Age plays an important factor in gymnastic.
With 30 World Championship medals in her tally, at 27, she is already considered one of the older gymansts and is aware of being in the twilight zone of her career.
