India’s men’s doubles star Satwiksairaj Rankireddy lost his father R Kasi Viswanatham to a cardiac arrest on Thursday. He was 65.
The tragedy took place when Viswanatham was travelling from Amalapuram to Rajahmundry airport by car. He complained of uneasiness and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead.
Viswanatham was accompanied by his wife Rangamani and a family friend at the time of the incident.
They were travelling to join Satwik, who is set to be conferred with the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna, later this year.
Satwik left the 43rd PSPB Inter-Unit badminton tournament to join his parents in Andhra Pradesh immediately. His brother is in the United States and expected to join for the cremation ceremony on Saturday.
Viswanatham was a retired physical education teacher.
