The Queensland government has appointed Cox and Hassell as the design and building team for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games stadium.
The 63,000-seat stadium will be built by the Australian firm, in association with Japanese group Azusa Sekkei.
The firms had earlier worked on Perth’s Optus Stadium while also redeveloping the Adelaide Oval and the MCG.
The stadium will start shaping in the middle of this year.

The stadium is estimated at $3.6 billion, which is a part of a $7.1 billion plan to make Queensland’s sporting venues ready for 2032 Games.
“We are humbled and delighted to have been awarded the project which will be a Stadium for all of Queensland. The Stadium will be of the Park and be a catalyst for increasing the connectivity, useability and amenity of Victoria Park. It will have a critical role in 2032 but its life after the Games will be its most important legacy for the community,” COX Chair of the Board of Directors, Richard Coulson.
“The design for Brisbane Stadium will provide enduring cultural value and enjoyment for the community all year-round. It goes beyond just meeting the needs of major international events by ensuring the venue can be adapted for a wide variety of sporting and cultural uses, making it a genuine asset for the whole community. It will not only deliver a world-class experience for athletes and fans but provide Brisbane with a vital piece of sporting infrastructure of true global calibre – a place all Queenslanders will be proud of,” Hassell Managing Principal, Lucy O’Driscoll said.
The site for building the stadium has not been earmarked. It will be estimated in the coming months.
It is reported by the Australian media that the stadium will play host to the Brisbane Lions and cricket, as well as entertainment events at the Brisbane 2032.
