PV Sindhu’s social media accounts never looked more joyous before her marriage to Venkata Datta Sai, the executive director of Posidex Technologies, a data analytics company, and the managing director of Sour Apple Asset Management, an investment firm.
The outpouring of love in her life was well-felt by her fans and badminton fraternity in pictures and videos around her marriage, mostly documented by RVR PRO.
It was one of the best moments of their lives, made possible by their meeting on a flight on October 6, 2022. Before that, Sindhu and Venkata’s parents knew each other but they barely interacted with eachother.
“It was a two-hour flight and we were talking and talking and finally ended up exchanging numbers,” Sindhu told The New York Times.
Datta has an experience of managing an Indian Premier League (IPL) team. The two-time Olympic medalist acknowledged how they bonded over various sports like, F1, golf, and football.
After the flight their conversation continued during Venkata’s biking trip through the Balkans with friends.
“It was almost like God had sent a message,” Venkata said. “I’ve met hundreds of people on flights. I’m not getting married to them.”
He could not make up his mind to ask Sindhu about dating due to her ‘LeBron James’ stature.
“She’s like the LeBron James of this side of the world,” Mr. Datta said. “You can’t go out on a date with her in India. Too many people recognize her. Then it’s ‘PV Sindhu has gone out with this man.’ I didn’t think I wanted to have my life in public so much.”
Venkata would invite the ace Indian shuttler to play golf after returning from his Europe trip.
The session bonded them with Venkata confessing that he liked Sindhu, in late 2022, and his vision of a life with her.
“We’ll make it work,” Sindhu recalls telling him. “Trust my hunch and my gut on this.”
