The Paris 2024 torch, which football great Zinadine Zidane passed to his tennis legend Rafael Nadal, has been auctioned on Sunday with numerous other official memorabilia.
Overall, the items were auctioned at a total €228,556 ($259,634), including commissions taken by the Paris auction house, Vermot & Associes.
Among the items auctioned were: Five Olympic torches which eventually led up to the famous cauldron situated near the Louvre. These torches were sold off between €12,000 ($13,653) and €20,000 ($22,763) apiece.
Meanwhile the red dress worn by Marie Antoinette, which she wore during the inauguration ceremony, when French band Gojira, played, went for €832 (946.87).
The garlands worn as headwear by French singer Philippe Katerine were sold off to French sports museum in the city of Nice.
The museum also bought other items, including the costume worn by a performer resembling the “Assassin’s Creed: Unity” character, who ran through the rooftops with a torch in hand during the opening ceremony.
One online bidder won a special soft-toy version of the “Phryge” — the Olympic mascot — which was presented to gold medalists. It was sold for €3,200 ($3,641). The same collector also picked up the Paralympics version of the soft toy, which had a prosthetic leg, for €1,408 ($1,602) .
The money raised from the auction was handed to three charities by the company in charge of the 2024 Olympics, which will be liquidated in June, according to head auctioneer Nathalie Vermot.
