Paris 2024 bronze medalist Cindy Ngamba has withdrawn from pro boxing debut citing an issue during pre-fight medical examination.
The 26-year-old made history in the last Summer Olympic Games as the EOC Refugee Team’s first-ever medal winner. She was due to make her debut on Friday against two-time European welterweight champion Kristie Bavington at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
The fight was on the undercard part of the all women’s boxing lineup headlined by the Natasha Jonas v Lauren Price welterweight title bout.
Promoters BOXXER said in a statement on Thursday: “Cindy Ngamba will not be making her professional debut on Friday night after a pre-fight medical examination revealed an issue requiring further investigation.
“The health and safety of fighters remains the highest priority, and Cindy will undergo further tests in the coming days.”
Ngamba had decided to go pro after Paris 2024 she was the flagbearer for the Olympic Refugee Team at the Opening Ceremony in Paris.
