Nine Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) boxers, including former World Youth Champion Sachin Siwach and Asian Games’ Lakshya Chahar entered the 8th Elite Men’s National Boxing Championship on Day 5 in the penultimate round.

Team SSCB, the two-time defending champion, are favorites to complete a three-peat.

Sachin clinched a 5-0 victory over Himachal Pradesh’s Ashish Kumar in the Lightweight (55-60kg) category while Lakshya matched the feat in the Light Heavyweight (75-80kg) category to bag a commanding victory.

Reigning welterweight champion (60-65kg) Shiva Thapa edged closer to his title defense with his win over Manipur’s Henthoi Mayengbam. The London 2012 Olympian will face Himachal Pradesh’s Abhinash Jamwal in the semifinals.

Jamwal is in red-hot form as he defeated 2022 Youth World Champion Vanshaj Kumar before overcoming Haryana’s Anshul 4-1 in the quarterfinals.

The event has a 10-point scoring system with each state allowed to enter up to 10 boxers.
