Novak Djokovic and Nick Kyrgios exited the Brisbane International 2025 after losing the second-round men’s doubles clash to top seeds Nikola Mektic and Michael Venus on Wednesday.

After beginning the clash in dominating fashion, the new men’s doubles pair slipped to a close defeat after a devastating double fault from Djokovic allowed the top seed to close the match 6-2, 3-6, 10-8.

“Down three points in the match tie-break it wasn’t looking great, but somehow we got back in there and Mekta hit a great return on match point,” Venus said.

“Incredible,” Mektic said afterwards. “I was very happy when I saw them (Djokovic and Kyrgios), I could play them on the first of January.

“It’s an amazing feeling to start the year like this and we knew there would be points like that against players like this.”

Meanwhile, Djokovic is through to the men’s singles quarter-finals where he will face France’s Gael Monfils, in pursuit of his 100th career ATP title.
