Former Wimbledon singles final opponents Novak Djokovic and Nick Kyrgios are set to team up on the doubles court Monday at the Brisbane International presented by Evie.
Djokovic and Kyrgios will open the night session inside Pat Rafter Arena at 6:30 p.m. local time* (9:30 a.m. CET, 3:30 a.m. ET) against Austrian Alexander Erler and German Andreas Mies.
In his pre-tournament media conference, Kyrgios quipped about how the doubles pairing came to fruition: “He kept messaging me over and over again. I was just like, I’ll give him a little handout and give him the pleasure of playing doubles with me,” Kyrgios said with a smile.
“It’s going to be a lot of fun. Look, kid from Canberra gets to play with the greatest of all time in his hometown in front of the fans is pretty special. It’s something that I’m able to tell people when it’s all said and done that I played doubles with him. It’s pretty special.”
Kyrgios has not played an ATP Tour tournament in more than 18 months. Djokovic has not played a Tour match since falling to Jannik Sinner in the final of the Rolex Shanghai Masters in early October. The 29-year-old has a 68-56 career doubles record and has won four titles.
Djokovic, who does not have a current PIF ATP Doubles Ranking, last played doubles at an ATP Tour event in November 2023, when he fell in the second round of the Rolex Paris Masters with Miomir Kecmanovic. He has a 64-80 career doubles record, according to the Infosys ATP Win-Loss Index.
Kyrgios, who leads Djokovic 2-1 in their Lexus ATP Head2Head singles rivalry, last played doubles at the 2022 Nitto ATP Finals with fellow Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis, with whom he won the 2022 Australian Open doubles title. Kyrgios has a 68-56 doubles record and four doubles titles.
