Nearly a month after Mikaela Shiffrin’s horrendous crash at the 2024 Stifel Killington Cup; Kelly Brush has raised concerns about the safety awareness in alpine skiing.
Brush, who runs The Kelly Brush Foundation to spread awareness about safety issues, besides remaining committed to making the sport safer was in the attendance, anticipating Shiffrin’s 100th victory.
“It went from so loud, to then when she fell, it went dead silent,” Kelly Brush was quoted as saying by mynbc5.com.
“Hopefully, this sport is going to be safer because of what happened”.
The Kelly Brush Foundation grants up to $100,000 across the country, every year.
Shiffrin suffered a deep puncture wound on her right abdomen and ‘severe muscle trauma’ but no serious bone, organ or ligament damage.
“There have been a lot of people who have had really, really close calls with not making it after these injuries,” said Brush, and she is one of them, as she collided with a lift tower during a race which broke her back and suffered spinal cord injuries.
