Malaysian National Director Rexy Mainaky has praised women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah’s risky effort at the All England Open 2025 to break their quarter-finals jinx.
Incidentally, the pair was ousted in the All England Open quarter-finals in 2022 and 2024.
Pearly risked a Grade 1 left ankle sprain without any ligament or tendon damage which she suffered during the clash against World No.5 pair Apriyani Rahayu-Siti Fadia Ramadhanti on Thursday.
According to reports, she had ankle swelling and tenderness at the ligament area.
However, Pearly persisted to take the quarter-finals challenge against World No.3 Nami Matsuyama-Chiharu Shida, with the Malaysians losing 17-21, 19-21.
“They had the focus and hunger to break their quarter-final jinx at the All England even before leaving for Europe. It’s a pity that Pearly suffered the sprain in Birmingham,” said Rexy.
“They were talking about it even during the Orleans Masters last week.
“They managed to get their rhythm and were so positive against Apriyani-Fadia but it was unfortunate Pearly got injured.
“Initially, they wanted to try until 11 points against the Japanese but they were so determined to continue and fight all the way.
“The good news is that Pearly’s injury is not serious and the plan is to monitor progress, reduce swelling and continue with treatment.”
The pair will be next seen in action during the Asian Championships, which will run from April 8 to 13 in China.
