Seasoned Indian shuttler HS Prannoy’s return to the court at the Malaysia Open 2025 was marred by a roof leakage on Tuesday.
The World No.26 comfortably took the first game against Canada’s Brian Yang 21-12 in the Round of 32 clash. He was trailing 9-11 in the second game when the match had to be suspended after the roof of the Stadium Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur started leaking during the mid-game interval.
The issue was noticed by the chair umpire during a rally when water started dripping from the roof and the point was not counted.
Soon the officials from the organising body — Badminton Association of Malaysia — placed towels to cover the wet areas.
There is no report on whether the play will be resumed.
Earlier, ahead of the season opener, World No.2 Anders Antonsen, the defending champion had commended the facility.
“The facilities here are great. The hall is nice, and it’s not easy to find such good conditions while travelling in Asia. I really appreciate coming here,“ he stated.
“There are also some good players here, and I occasionally spar with them.”
