The finals of the wheelchair categories at the Khelo India Para Games 2025 table tennis delivered high-octane drama and displays of steely resolve at the IG Indoor Stadium, as Tamil Nadu’s Jehan Dorab Madan clinched gold in the men’s Class 1 table tennis final after a gritty battle against Mayank Srivastava of Uttar Pradesh.
Though the scoreboard reflected a 3-0 victory, it belied the intensity of the contest.
Jehan had to dig deep in the first and third games, edging past Mayank by the narrowest of margins. Mayank, despite a faltering second game, came back stronger in the third, showing exceptional grit and pushing Jehan to the limit before eventually falling short.
In the men’s Class 2 final, Tamil Nadu continued its golden run with Avinash Gopinathan overpowering Haryana’s Lakkshhya Gupta in straight games. Barring the tightly contested third set, Avinash dominated proceedings with clinical precision to secure the top podium finish.
Meanwhile, in an all-action Class 3 final, Punjab’s Shubham Wadhwa outclassed Rajasthan’s Madhu Ram 3-0, though the latter showed flashes of resistance. Shubham’s superior pace and control ultimately proved decisive.
Haryana’s Sumit Sehgal and Maharashtra’s Rishit Vipul Nathwani ruled the roost in the Class 4 and Class 5 men’s finals respectively, both registering convincing 3-0 wins over their challengers—Jashvant Chaudhary of Gujarat and Abhishek Kumar Singh of Uttar Pradesh.
Among the women, Gujarat’s Sonalben Manubhai Patel was in a league of her own as she dismantled Bihar’s Vidya Kumari 3-0 in the Class 3 final, barely giving her opponent a chance to settle into the match. In Class 4, Telangana’s Vijaya Deepika Gangapatnam was equally dominant, blanking Gujarat’s Usha Rathod.
The most thrilling match of the day unfolded in the women’s Class 5 final. Gujarat’s Kajal Makvana mounted a spirited comeback to outlast Bharti Dineshbhai Paddhariya in a five-game epic. Trailing 1-2, Kajal held her nerve and surged through the last two games to claim the gold spectacularly.
Bronze medals were awarded to all losing semifinalists across categories, rounding out a competitive penultimate day of para table tennis action. With Classes 6 to 10 finals scheduled for tomorrow, the stage is set for a fitting grand finale to the wheelchair and standing para table tennis events at the Games.
