The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has finalized a new plan for shooting at Los Angeles (LA) 2028.
As a result, the number of shooters in the finals for rapid fire pistol and shotgun events have been increased from six to eight to be at par with other finals.
Meanwhile, the final for the 50m rifle 3-positions event have returned to “only standing position”. The qualification round format will remain unchanged with 60 shots in all in the kneeling, prone and standing positions.
The mixed skeet event will be replaced by mixed trap team event.
“We are extremely pleased to have our 15 shooting events confirmed in the Olympic programme for LA28,” said Luciano Rossi, the president of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF).
In the mixed team competitions, four teams will compete together for the gold medal match, instead of the current rule of having the bronze and gold medal matches separately.
The international circuit will follow these rules from January 1, 2026.
Shooting will have 340 quota places for the Olympics.
