Indian Golf Union is in a major tussle over its governance as two separate ‘unopposed’ elections were conducted under the jurisdiction of retired judges in New Delhi, India on Sunday.
Brijender Singh was elected as the President of the Indian Golf Union for a second term in unopposed elections held during the organization’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the India Habitat Centre, under the supervision of Returning Officer Justice (Retd) Rameshwar Singh Malik.
“The main work of the new team is to carry forward the good work we have done in the last few years. They are good golfers, most of them have been part of the Governing Council with me previously as well. We are very clear on our growth path and we will continue to work in that direction,” Brijinder Singh said in a statement.
The office-bearers named in this election are Honorary Secretary, S.K. Sharma and Honorary Treasurer, Sanjiv Rattan.
The nine members elected to the Governing Council are Farzan R Heerjee (Jharkhand), Harpuneet Singh Sandhu (Chandigarh), Harish Kumar (Uttarakhand), Nagesh Singh (Assam), Dr Param Navdeep Singh (Rajasthan), Sameer Sinha (Gujarat), Shashank Sandu (Maharashtra), Simarjeet Singh (Uttar Pradesh) and Viren Singh Ghumman (Punjab).
In another, ‘unopposed’ election held at the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) premises, Harish Shetty was elected the new president under the supervision of Justice (Retd.) OP Garg., with 21 Member State Golf Associations assembled at the AGM.
Dhiraj Seth, meanwhile, was elected as the Vice President, BK Repswal as Secretary, and Manoj Joshi as Treasurer along with nine council members, all elected unopposed.
