India to host the Asian Swimming Championships 2025, slated to run from October 1 to 15 in Ahmedabad.
“We have got the in-principle approval for the event from the Gujarat Government and the Asian federation (Asia Aquatics). We will be signing the MoU with them within the next 30 to 40 days,” Monal Chokshi, the general secretary of the Swimming Federation of India, told Sportstar from Ahmedabad on Wednesday evening.
“Though it is officially called the Asian swimming championship, it will have swimming, diving, water polo and artistic swimming. This is the first time India will be hosting the Asian championship though we have hosted the Asian age-group championships before.”
The continental event will take place at the Naranpura Sports Complex. The complex is undergoing renovation which is set to be completed by April.
“Before that, we will have the National junior championship at the new pool as a test event for the Asian championship,” said Chokshi.
World’s best swimmers from China, Japan and South Korea are set to participate in the event.
