Lakshya Sen, India’s breakthrough men’s singles Olympian, has the fire in his belly to go one better at Los Angeles (LA) 2028.
The Paris 2024 semi-finalist, who slumped to a first-round exit in the Malaysia Open 2025, is hoping to comeback stronger at the India Open 2025 in front of a home crowd.
He lost to Taiwanese shuttler Chi Yu-jen in straight games at the season-opening event.
“Last year was a bit tough for me. Coming this close to a medal and missing out. But, for me, the fire inside of me is still burning, and I want to rebound from that and perform well this year as we approach the next Olympics,” Sen said at the pre-tournament press conference for the India Open on Monday.
Sen had defeated Singapore’s Loh Kean Yew in the India Open 2022 men’s singles final in an empty stadium to clinch his maiden title at the BWF World Tour Super 750 international badminton tournament.
“When I won the India Open in 2022, it wasn’t in front of the fans. So I hope to win it again before the amazing fans here in India. It’s a wonderful opportunity for Indian fans to come and watch us live and see all the major stars,” he added.
The World No.12 will begin his campaign in New Delhi against China’s Weng Hongyang on Tuesday.
