Malaysian mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei have reunited again to represent their country at the Sudirman Cup 2025.
It is a timely return for Malaysia, easing the knockout stage qualification burden from national coach Nova Widianto.
The World No.4 mixed doubles pair had separated for three weeks. They will be a crucial back-up for top pair Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai (world No. 3) at the mixed team event in Xiamen, China, from April 27-May 4.
“I need to be ready for my country,” Tang Jie said at the Academy Badminton Malaysia in Bukit Kiara on Friday.
“Soon Huat-Shevon are clearly our top pair, and Pang Ron-Su Yin are also always prepared. I have full confidence in my teammates.”
Malaysia are pitted against Japan, France and Australia in Group C. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the quarter-finals.
Tang Jie-Ee Wei have started training together from Tuesday, two days before their reunion was made official.
“Everyone wanted them to reunite,” said Nova.
“But now they must show they are serious and committed. They need to resolve the issues that led to their split and stay positive.”
Following the Sudirman Cup, Tang Jie will reunite with temporary partner Chan Wen Tse at the Taiwan Open (May 6-11), Thailand Open (May 13-18), and Malaysia Masters (May 20-25).
Ee Wei will join Loo Bng Kun in the same tournaments.
According to Malaysian media reports, the pair will reunite permanently from the Singapore Open (May 27-June 1).
