The BWF World Tour is back after three weeks with Mulheim playing host to the Super 300 German Open.

- Christo Popov and Mia Blichfeldt return as defending champions.
- Doubles will crown new winners with Lee Jhe Huei/Yang Po Hsuan (men’s), Li Yi Jing/Luo Xu Min (women’s) and Tang Chun Man/Tse Ying Suet (mixed) not defending their titles.
- A successful title defence by Blichfeldt would make her the first European to win two consecutive women’s singles titles since France’s Pi Hong Yan in 2002.
- No shuttlers from outside China, Japan, Korea or Denmark won the category after Pi.
- None of this year’s top seeds have previously triumphed at this tournament.
- Of those, Singapore (Yeo Jia Min in women’s singles) and Bulgaria (the Stoeva sisters in women’s doubles) have never produced German Open winners.
- Other countries with seeded entries hoping for their maiden champion(s) are Vietnam (Thuyen Nguy Linh in women’s singles) and Turkey (Bengisu Ercetin/Nazlican Inci in women’s doubles).

- Two reigning world champions who are past winners return with new partners. Chen Qing Chen is with youngster Wang Ting Ge in women’s doubles while 2019 mixed doubles gold medallist Seo Seung Jae is seeded seventh alongside Kim Won Ho in men’s doubles.
