The Board of Control For Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to sack Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir’s support staffs — assistant coach Abhishek Nayar and fielding coach T Dilip — ahead of the England Tests, starting June 20 at the Headingley, Leeds.
As per a report in The Dainik Jagran, the Indian cricket board is not in support of a huge support staff and a major decision will be taken at a high-profile meeting in Guwahati on March 29.
The Team India support staff includes assistant coaches Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate while NCA and A team coach Sitanshu Kotak were named as batting coach. The Indian cricket board also named Morne Morkel as the bowling coach.
The support staff also consists, three throwdown specialists, two massage therapists, a senior and a junior physiotherapist, a team doctor, a security and operations manager, a computer analyst, and a few logistical and media managers”.
All of them were a part of India’s triumph at the Champions Trophy 2025 with the board eager to cut it short.
India’s five-match Test series will run from June 20 to August 4.
“The first four-day match will be hosted at The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence in Canterbury from May 30. The second match is scheduled to begin a week later on June 6 at the County Ground in Northampton,” the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said in a statement.
