Gary Anderson, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, donated his Tokyo 1964-winning rifle to the Nebraska National Guard Museum in Seward after returning home for a holiday.

With this rifle, he broke the 300m rifle event World and Olympic Record. He acquired a period-correct Remington M40-X action and barrel, which a gunsmith put together.

He clinched a second gold medal at the Mexico 1968.

The Olympian trained at his farm to achieve glory at the highest level. He, however, couldn’t afford ammunition and, so, shot without it envisioning the target.

He said that going through that process helped him improve his target.

“The ones who become champion figure out a way to win, and I think a message out of my experience is just you do what is possible and you do it with enough, enough intensity and it can pay off,” Anderson was quoted as saying by 1011now.com.

The rifle displayed at the museum has the original stock, butt-plate, palm rest, sights and trigger.
