United States Olympic sprinter Fred Kerley, Paris 2024 bronze medalist, was tasered and arrested following a confrontation with Miami Beach Police.

The double Olympic medalist was charged with battery, resisting a police officer and breach of the peace following the Thursday evening incident.

The incident broke out after Kerley approached the officers with an aggressive demeanor while they were investigating another incident, according to a police report.

Kerley “continued to resist officers and used evasive movements to avoid being arrested”. He was wrestled to the ground by four officers.

Police bodycam footage shows Kerley getting back on his feet and then being tasered and falling to the floor. He was, then, taken into custody.

According to a local media report, he appeared in court and was later released on bail. His lawyer said that the entire incident was a “total misunderstanding.”

The 29-year-old won gold at the 2022 World Championships and has won world 4x100m and 4x400m gold medals, recording the sixth-fastest 100m time in history with 9.76 seconds.
