When cricket makes a return to the Olympics, at LA 2028, its matches will be played at a temporary, purpose-built structure at the Fairgrounds in Pomona, the organising committee announced on Tuesday.

The Fairgrounds in Pomona, officially known as Fairplex, is a 500-acre event complex where the Los Angeles County Fair has been held since 1922.

A number of concerts, trade shows, sports and cultural events are hosted through out the years at this venue.

“We’ve promised the world an incredible Olympic Games and today we’re proud to share the plan that will make it happen,” said LA28 CEO Reynold Hoover. “Los Angeles is the epicentre of sports, culture and entertainment, and every venue selected for the 2028 Games will provide athletes and fans the best possible experience.”

Cricket was last included in the Olympic Games in Paris 1900, where a one-off, two-day match was played. It was played in what would be called a Test format today.

Cricket was included along with baseball/softball, flag football, lacrosse (sixes) and squash for the LA 2028.
