In what could turn out to be a major boost for Team India at the Champions Trophy 2025, their pace bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has returned to training at the state-of-art National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
His wife, sports presenter Sanjana Ganesan, a part of the official broadcasters’ panel for the Champions Trophy 2025 confirmed the news during India’s opening clash against Bangladesh in Dubai on Thursday.
“He is okay. He is training at the NCA,” Sanjana said when Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz asked her, “How is Bumrah?”
The 31-year-old was ruled out of the marquee event due to a lower back injury that he suffered during the fifth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. He was named in the provisional squad for the Champions Trophy 2025 before being replaced by Harshit Rana due to the injury.
He won the ICC Cricketer of the Year and ICC Test Cricketer of the Year awards in 2024.
Miraz, a key member of the Bangladesh side said he was very happy on not having to face Bumrah.
“He is a very different bowler and very dangerous, uff! He is not coming here. We are very happy! He is very dangerous. Everybody respects him. Every better. I got out against him two times. He has improved a lot. He bowls both ways,” Miraz said.
In place of Bumrah, India’s veteran Mohammed Shami is leading the playing XI.
