Following the Brisbane 2032, the iconic Gabba stadium will be replaced by a 60,000-seater stadium in the Victoria Park area of the city.
The Gabba is set to be demolished after hosting 67 men’s Tests and two women’s, with the Border-Gavaskar Test match between India and Australia, the most recently held.
The Gabba stadium is mainly used to kickstart Australia’s summer campaign. But it has changed recently with the 2025/26 Ashes series set to begin in Perth on November 21.
The Gabba will host the day-night second Test, before matches set to be held in Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney as England look to clinch the Ashes for the first time since 2010/11.
It is understood that housing site will be built on The Gabba site once it is demolished.
The Gabba will bow out with 2032 Brisbane final if cricket is included in the Olympic roster.
“Wouldn’t it be amazing to see the Australian cricket team win gold at an Olympic final? The Gabba’s swansong,” Queensland Premier David Crisafulli said.
“The Gabba is at its end of life. It hasn’t been well maintained, and we do need a stadium to host this great show, and there is an opportunity for legacy play.”
