Mayank Srivastava, the Sports Authority of India’s (SAI) deputy director general in the Khelo India division, has been appointed as the ‘independent observer’ by the government for the delayed Boxing Federation Of India (BFI) elections.
Moreover, the World Boxing, has named Tatsuya Nakama as the observer, a report in the TOI said.
In an order by the Himachal Pradesh High Court, Justice Ajay Mohan Goel, mandated the appointment of an observer by sports ministry to conduct the election.
The report further states, the directive from the court came after it stayed the March 21 order by BFI’s returning officer (Justice retd) RK Gauba, who called for the postponement of the federation’s Annual General Meeting on March 28 in Gurugram, during which the elections of the new office-bearers were to be held.
Earlier, the ministry had requested the BFI a comprehensive report on the delay of elections and various other cases file by the sports ministry’s member state associations.
As per the directions of BFI president Ajay Singh, the RO had postponed the elections on the grounds, stating that it was “impossible to complete the process within originally planned timelines” after the Himachal Pradesh High Court ordered the inclusion of former sports minister Anurag Thakur’s name in the electoral college.
