In a major setback for BCCI, the new state-of-art Centre Of Excellence is set to lose its sports science department head Nitin Patel.
Patel was responsible for supervising the Indian cricket players towards recovery from their respective injury, managing workload, and rehabilitation for international and domestic cricket players.
Patel, the former Mumbai Indians physio, is currently serving his notice period. As per a report in Cricbuzz, he is set to leave at the end of this month, with the Indian Cricket Board set to find his replacement via advertisement for the role.
Patel reported about the aforementioned areas to the head of the Centre of Excellence, VVS Laxman. He had joined the NCA (Centre Of Excellence) in April 2022.
Indian cricket team players like Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer, and KL Rahul, were supervised by Patel during their injury.
Most recently, he was overseeing the recovery of Mohammed Shami. He is currently managing the rehab procedure of Team India fast bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah.
Patel was the first appointment in the department. The Sports Science department was a dream project of Jay Shah and Patel was vital in the facility, which was inaugurated last September.
As per reports, Patel did a commendable job in his role. However, the reason of his departure, is still not known.
