Independent shuttler Lee Zii Jia’s request for protected rankings has been granted by BWF as he is still recovering from his right ankle injury.
It also means that Zii Jia has been ruled out from Sudirman Cup in Xiamen, China, slated to run from April 27 to May 4. The protected rankings is usually taken by the shuttlers for long spells.
Zii Jia will have protected rankings for three months. He has already missed five World tour tournaments, this season.
“After careful consideration and advice from the relevant parties including medical experts, our application to BWF to grant protected ranking for Lee Zii Jia is successful,” stated Team LZJ.
“The protected ranking is to allow Zii Jia to continue with his recovery from the right ankle injury.
Ng Tze Yong has also used the protected ranking after undergoing two back surgeries last year.
