Jason Avedesian-developed Olympic Sports Science program is almost becoming a norm at the Clemson University.
A Ph.d and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist was appointed the Director of Sports Science for Olympic Sports at the Clemson, South Carolina-based University in 2021.
His Olympic Sports Science program turned out to be instrumental in turning hundreds of Tiger draftees into pros while he was supervising around 350 students in 17 varsity sports.
In his three years with Clemson, Avedesian developed the mission with RHBSSI; emphasizing at developing, supporting, and promoting the work of students. “The biggest thing in my role as Director of Sports Science, especially over the last three years, was growing our student internship program,” he told Clemson News.
“Really, the whole point of it was for students to get real world opportunities within the athletics environment. They can figure out what they’re passionate about and what they enjoy, and if this is something they’re passionate about making a career out of.”
The internship program consists of a semester-long, science-based curriculum dependent on the students’ interests with positions ranging from performance science to data analytics, research and design, and technology efficiency and implementation.
Now, a Director of biomechanics & Research at Cleveland Cavaliers, he is using technology to answer the same questions.
