Home favorites Shi Yuqi and Wang Zhiyi reigned supreme in the BWF World Tour Finals 2024 in Hangzhou, China on Sunday.
The World No.1 eased past Anders Antonsen 21-18, 21-14 in the men’s singles final while the World No.2 overcame her compatriot Han Yue 19-21, 21-19, 21-11 in the women’s singles final.
The 28-year-old Chinese’s triumph was mixed with resilience and powerful returns; halting Denmark’s bid to bag a fourth consecutive year-ending title through Antonsen after Viktor Axelsen’s three-peat.
Meanwhile, the two-time Asian champion, capped off the year with a maiden World Tour Finals title and her fourth BWF World Tour title of 2024.
The major highlight of her year was when she registered an upset over Tokyo 2020 gold medalist Chen Meng to clinch the continental championship.
